Spanish
The Spanish specialization allows
students to focus on the Spanish language for their Associate
of Arts degree. Students must successfully complete core courses
with a "C-" or better to meet specialization requirements.
After completing the core requirements,
students will have the foundation necessary to continue at the
intermediate or advanced levels of Spanish that a transfer institution.
With the choices offered in Core
Electives, students will also be exposed to a second foreign language
and classes that focus on the relationship of language, culture,
and society.
Students who complete the specialization in Spanish
at Northwest should be able to:
- engage in conversations, provide and obtain
information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions
in Spanish
- understand and interpret written and spoken
Spanish on a variety of topics
- present information, concepts, and ideas to
an audience of listeners or readers on a variety of topics
- demonstrate an understanding of the practices
and values of Hispanic culture
- reinforce and further their knowledge of other
disciplines through the Spanish language
- use the language both within and beyond the
school setting
- demonstrate an understanding of the nature of
language by comparing Spanish to the native language of the student
- show evidence of being a life-long learner
by anticipating ways to use Spanish for personal enjoyment or
learning
