WJE Officers

Ron Wagner

Ron Wagner is serving as the Wyoming Jazz Educators Vice President and Secretary for the current term.  Ron graduated in May 2004 from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Music Education.  Currently Ron is working on his Masters of Music Education, also through UW, and is the Director of Bands at Douglas High School.  He teaches Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Pep Band along with music theory/composition.  Ron has also served as an adjudicator for marching band in Nebraska and is the North Platte Music District President Elect.

Convention Meeting info

W will have a WMEA Conference lunch/meeting at Dona Maria, Mexican Restaurant, in Downtown Evanston on Monday, January 16th, MLK Day at 12:00pm, noon.  This will be a short lunch/meeting and we definitely need a quorum to look over our re-written By-Laws, which are also are posted on our web-site, and introduction of our nominees for Offices for the up-coming year.  Plus, enjoying great food, the camaraderie of WJE Membership.  We will have an agenda with these items, new and old business and, more for the meeting.  This is a very important meeting please let me know if you plan on attending so I can contact the restaurant with numbers of attendees so we can get in and out of there in the time.

Wyoming Jazz Educators

Nick Simons has been a clinician, conductor, adjudicator, and instrumental music educator for over 30 years in the tri-state area.  He has been educating at a variety of grade levels and ages from grade school, junior high, high school, college and college aged students throughout his career in Wyoming.  Mr. Simons has a Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Arts with emphasis in Music Education from the University of Wyoming. He has performed in symphonies, jazz bands, wind ensemble, concert bands, trombone ensembles, back-up groups for various internationally known artists, pit orchestras, and jazz combos on flute, piccolo, euphonium, and trombone throughout the state of Wyoming.  Nick has taught in the Natrona County School District at elementary schools, East Junior High School, Kelly Walsh High School, Campbell County School District at Campbell County High School, the University of Wyoming as a low brass instructor, Assistant Director of the University of Wyoming Summer Music Camp, Assistant Conductor with the Laramie Community Band, and UW Pep Band Director, the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps as a Brass Instructor, Administrator, and Assistant Director of the Corps.  He is currently the Johnson Junior High School Director of Bands and teaches beginning guitar in Cheyenne.
