Graphics options have been developed to provide students with broad career preparation in the related fields of design, prepress production, and printing production. Varied combinations of course work in these fields can lead to employment opportunities in the Rocky Mountain region and across the nation.
Graphic design involves the study of communications through image and/or type. Core courses and recommended electives provide the student with an introduction to basic design principles, visual communication theory, an overview of the graphics design industry, and a survey of graphic design history, along with the related fields of print production, computer graphics, photography, and advertising. Several Northwest College Skills Certificates are available for those wishing to develop special occupational skills. The web design certificate is available to those students wishing to develop the skills necessary to design and maintain a website. The desktop publishing certificate is offered to those who seek an entry-level position in the graphic design, printing and publishing professions. Other certificates include: basic graphic arts production, prepress, offset duplicator, lithographic offset press, and graphics administration. Any of these broad-based backgrounds will aid you in making the transition to a diversified workplace. The good news is that graphic communications is the third largest manufacturing industry in America, and the fifth largest in Wyoming. |
